Festival Season Is Coming

The Health District Licenses and Inspects Temporary Food Service Operations

With warmer weather upon us, festival season is approaching in Clermont County.  With the arrival of the festivals comes the arrival of festival food, sold from mobile and temporary food vendors. Last year the Clermont County General Health District licensed 192 temporary food operations.  This includes tents and booths set up to sell food at local festivals, carnivals, yard sales, and many other public events.

People may not be aware that Health District sanitarians are out inspecting these booths to help ensure that proper food handling practices are in place and safe food is being served.  These inspections  include evaluation and feedback on cooking and holding temperatures for various foods, employee handwashing & food handling practices, cleaning & sanitizing utensils, etc.

If you or a local group you are thinking about setting up a temporary food service operation please remember that a temporary food license may be required.  If you have any questions about whether your food sales require a license, call 513-732-7499 and ask to speak to a sanitarian in the Environmental Health Division. To apply for a temporary food service license please fill out and submit the temporary event packet no later than 2 weeks before your event.
