Most fall injuries occur in and around the home. Home safety assessments can help identify fall risks in the home environment and home modifications can reduce or eliminate fall hazards.
Modifications can include installing:
- Handrails
- Grab Bars
- Raised Toilet Seats
- Ramps for Wheelchairs
- Improved Lighting
- Lift Chairs
In Clermont County, home safety checks are done for free by local firefighters and EMS personnel. The check includes but is not limited to assessing the home for adequate lighting, handrails on stairs, the presence of bath mats and grab bars in the bathroom, storing medications safely, safe exits from the home/apartment and checking for fire hazards.
The Clermont County General Health District Senior Safety Program offers seniors who have the home safety check free safety aids such as grab bars, flashlights, nightlights, pill containers and surge protectors. To arrange a home safety check, please contact us.
