“Influenza (flu) is a respiratory illness and symptoms include fever, headache, extreme tiredness, dry cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, and muscle aches,” said Clermont County Health Commissioner Marty Lambert.  “It is spread from person to person in respiratory droplets of coughs and sneezes.”  The flu season in this country can begin as early as October and last as late as May, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

This year’s flu vaccine will protect people from those strains of flu most likely to circulate in the U.S. during the 2007-2008 flu season.  This does NOT include the bird flu that has recently been in the news and is currently being seen in Asia.

Additional information about influenza and the flu vaccine may be found at the CDC website at:  www.cdc.gov
