The ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the newly-improved O’Bannon Creek Nature Trail in Goshen Township was held on Thursday, August 18, 2011. The Clermont County General Health District, in collaboration with the Goshen Local School District, received a $25,000 grant to improve the trail near Goshen High School and to make a portion of the trail handicapped accessible. The pathway has been widened and is being paved with crushed gravel, making the trail handicapped accessible with assistance.
“Clermont County was one of only two Ohio projects selected for funding through Hamilton County Public Health, as part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Strategic Alliance for Health Program,” said Clermont General Health District Assistant Commissioner Julianne Nesbit. The grant was a result of collaborative efforts with the Clermont Coalition for Activity and Nutrition, also known as Clermont CAN.
The O’Bannon Creek Nature Trail is open to the community for various types of physical activity; Goshen High School also utilizes it as an outdoor learning environment. “Goshen Local Schools are excited about the opportunities the trail provides for students. The trail habitat and creek will enable students to experience science in a hands-on manner,” said Goshen Local School Superintendent Darrell Edwards. Parking is available near the trail at Goshen High School.
