Immunizations at the Health District
Is your family up-to-date on their immunizations? August is designated as National Immunization Awareness Month. This provides an opportunity for everyone to think about the importance of immunizations and to make sure that everyone in your family is up-to-date. Being aware of the vaccines that are recommended for infants, children, adolescents, adults and seniors is vital for protection from vaccine preventable diseases. Recommended immunizations begin soon after birth and continue throughout life.
In August parents are enrolling children in school, older students are entering middle, high school or college and chances are they are going to need immunizations. With fall and flu season around the corner adults and seniors need to consider not only the flu vaccine but other vaccines they may need. This makes August a particularly good time to focus everyone’s attention on the value of immunizations. Immunization against disease is one of the most significant public health developments in modern history. Vaccines are responsible for the control of many infectious diseases and in some cases eliminated diseases that once killed or harmed tens of thousands of infants, children and adults. Despite the scientific advances, more Americans die from vaccine preventable diseases than car accidents, breast cancer, or AIDS. The viruses and bacteria that cause vaccine preventable diseases still exist and can infect people who are not protected by vaccines.
August is a good time to review your family’s immunization records and make sure your family is protected against vaccine preventable diseases. For more information about immunizations contact your physician or the Clermont County General Health District.
