Sanofi-Pastuer announced a recall on four lot numbers of pediatric vaccine in pre-filled syringes today. The recall IS NOT RELATED TO THE SAFETY of the vaccine but rather the amount of antigen in these lots has fallen below the specified limits. The Health District did receive a limited quantity of one of the indicated lot numbers which have been distributed in the county, however they were not distributed in the school based clinics. The affected lot numbers are:
UT023DA
UT028DA
UT028CB
UT030CA
The CDC and FDA agree that the small decrease in antigen content is unlikely to result in a significant reduction in the immune response among persons who have received the vaccine and does not recommend readministering the dose of vaccine. Please keep in mind that all children under 10 require a second dose of vaccine to build full immunity. The Health District currently has sufficient quantities of vaccine and recommends anyone with a child under 10 needing a second dose to contact the Health District to schedule an appointment. Additional information about the vaccine recall is available from the CDC.
